This condition occurs when the rectum comes out of the body through the anus. It is usually associated with bowel incontinence and other disorders of the pelvic floor to some degree. It affects mostly older women. With advanced age, straining and in the case of women prior years of child bearing and childbirth, there could be resultant weakness of the pelvic floor support and laxity of the ligaments supporting the rectum, thus leading to rectal prolapse. Dr. Ambe will tailor the preferred procedure based on a patient’s age, sex, general medical condition, bowel function and bowel continence status to ensure adequate symptom relieve and a durable repair.
